This device, which uses an infrared reflective light barrier and is intended for the home use, already alerts you to a smoldering fire before a dangerously high smoke concentration is reached.
The power consumption of the smoke detector is very low. A 9V battery has a life of about 3 months in continuous operation. If the voltage is too low, the appliance will signal the battery change due to an interrupted alarm tone.
